Victim Support are recruiting volunteers!
Description
We are recruiting Victim Support community service volunteers to give emotional and practical support to victims of crime across Avon and Somerset. No previous experience is necessary but enthusiasm, empathy and commitment are essential.
• Gain experience giving direct support to vulnerable people.
• Build knowledge of the Criminal Justice System.
• Receive specialist training
• All expenses reimbursed
• Opportunities to specialise within ASB (antisocial behaviour), domestic violence, serious crime and sexual violence
You will be contacting and providing confidential emotional support and practical help to people who have been victims of crime, either over the phone, at the victim’s home, in Victim Support’s office or in agreed community settings. You will receive excellent training and there are plenty of opportunities to progress.
We are currently recruiting for our next round of core training in July which will be held in Stoke Gifford. Interviews will be held in Bristol during July and August, and the deadline for applications is Tuesday 12th July, 4.30pm. Attendance at all four training days is a mandatory requirement for all volunteers and we will be asking for confirmation of availability before arranging interviews.
We ask for a minimum of 12 months commitment.
Volunteering is flexible and we encourage you to volunteer at least five hours per week. This can be done alongside work or other commitments, but is to be carried out between 8am-7pm Monday-Friday, and 9am-4pm on Saturdays. You will receive a full induction, training and one-to-one support. All normal expenses will be reimbursed. We will also ask you for two references and completion of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Our core training will take place on the 26 and 28th of July (Tues and Thurs) and the 2nd and 4th of August (Tues and Thurs).
To find out more or to get an application pack please email or ring 0300 303 1972 for a chat about the role. The deadline for application is close of business Tuesday 12th July 2016.
